For example, jazz singer Perry Danos's record label needed a crisply written bio that detailed the arc of his career while focusing on his new CD release. Sony Masterworks needed a snappy press release for Linda Eder's new album. And singer-songwriter Meg Braun, a relative newcomer, needed a concise bio with a "hook" to interest potential fans.
To get out the word about its new commercial video, independent producer Underdog Entertainment needed a press release that sounded professional but also personable and included a lot of information within a strict word limit.
A synopsis (of a play or novel, for example) sums up the plot in an exciting, concise way so as to appeal to a) members of the press who are reading a press release containing the synopsis, and/or b) members of the public reading an announcement, advertisement, or back cover.
