{"id":252,"date":"2007-09-05T13:11:42","date_gmt":"2007-09-05T17:11:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jonsobel.com\/?p=252"},"modified":"2007-09-05T15:08:03","modified_gmt":"2007-09-05T19:08:03","slug":"kudos-for-hugos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jonsobel.com\/?p=252","title":{"rendered":"Kudos for Hugos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Back in the 1970s, as I avidly read my precious paperback copies of the Isaac Asimov-edited <i>Hugo Award Winners<\/i> (Volume 1, Volume 2, <i>ad adstra infinitum<\/i>), I naturally imagined that someday I&#8217;d be a great science fiction writer with no dandruff.  But I had a much more powerful and urgent dream: that I&#8217;d grow up and play in a <a href=\"http:\/\/myspace.com\/whisperado\/\" target=\"_blank\">country-rock band<\/a> alongside a recipient of a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hugo_Award\" target=\"_blank\">Hugo Award<\/a> in the Best Professional Editor (Long Form) category.  Now, at last, my lifelong dream has come true!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nielsenhayden.com\/makinglight\/archives\/009335.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/nielsenhayden.com\/makinglight\/crowd.jpg\" border=\"2\" alt=\"Patrick in Japan\" title=\"Patrick in Japan\" hspace=\"5\" vspace=\"5\" width=\"275\" height=\"243\" align=\"left\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Patrick Nielsen Hayden has <a href=\"http:\/\/nielsenhayden.com\/makinglight\/archives\/009335.html\" target=\"_blank\">won this year&#8217;s Hugo<\/a> for editing some books that were apparently really good.  Reading them would be the neighborly thing to do.  I must get around to that.  However, I&#8217;m sure Patrick&#8217;s having written <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cs_znlSCTO8\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Invisible Hand&#8221;<\/a> for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whisperado.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Whisperado<\/a> must have also had something to do with the award.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to Patrick!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back in the 1970s, as I avidly read my precious paperback copies of the Isaac Asimov-edited Hugo Award Winners (Volume 1, Volume 2, ad adstra infinitum), I naturally imagined that someday I&#8217;d be a great science fiction writer with no dandruff.
